Unable to Save Password When Connecting

When starting up your computer, Windows might ask you for a username and/or password. Are you clicking “OK” or “Cancel?” You must click “OK” at this prompt in order for Windows to save passwords.

Additional Troubleshooting Steps Windows 95/98 and Windows ME

If you still cannot save passwords, try following these steps to fix the problem.

  1. Open the Network Control Panel:
    1. Click the “Start” menu.
    2. Choose “Settings,” then “Control Panel.”
    3. In the window that appears, double-click the icon labeled “Network.”
  2. Add the Client for Microsoft Networks:
    1. Click the button labeled “Add.”
    2. In the window that appears, click “Client,” then click “Add.”
    3. In the left-hand column, click “Microsoft.”
    4. In the right-hand column, click “Client for Microsoft Networks.”
    5. Click “OK.”
    6. Click the tab labeled “Identification.”
    7. Type a name into the box labeled “Computer Name.”
    8. Type "Workgroup" into box labeled “Workgroup.”
    9. Click “OK.”
    10. Follow any further instructions your computer gives you.
  3. After completing these steps then rebooting, you should be able to click the “Save Password” option when connecting to the Internet.
