Disabling the “Always Dial My Default Connection” Option

With DSL Internet service, your computer does not need to dial a phone call to connect to the Internet. If your computer tries to dial whenever you check your email or browse a web page, there is a setting you need to change to alter this behavior.

Disable the Default Connection in the Hubris Dialer

If you used the Hubris Communications CD-ROM to configure your computer for DSL access, follow these steps first. Then follow the steps to tell Windows to never dial a connection.

  1. On the desktop, double-click the Hubris icon.
  2. In the window that appears, click the button labeled “Options.”
  3. In the window that appears, uncheck the option labeled “Set as the default Internet connection.”
  4. Click “OK,” then click “OK” again to save your changes.

Configure Windows to Never Dial a Connection

  1. Open the Control Panel:
    1. Clicking the Start menu.
    2. Click “Settings,” then “Control Panel.” In Windows XP, “Control Panel” is available right on the Start menu.
  2. In the window that appears, double-click the icon labeled “Internet Options.” In Windows XP, you may first need to click the option on the left labeled “Switch to Classic View.”
  3. In the window that appears, click the tab at the top labeled “Connections.”
  4. Click the option labeled “Never dial a connection.”
  5. Click “OK” then close the Control Panel to save your changes.
