Spam Filter Features

Spam is the electronic equivalent of junk mail. It’s a general term that refers to any unsolicited and unwanted email messages you receive. What can you do about it? You can put the Hubris Communications Spam Filter to work for you. Learn about all the features and controls so you can adjust the Spam Filter to meet your needs.

Enable/Disable Spam Control

Enable/Disable Spam Control

The Spam Filter does an excellent job of determining whether or not a message is spam. However, there is the potential for some legitimate messages to be blocked by the filter. Because of this, we give you the option to turn the filter off or on.

Point System

Point System

The Spam Filter works on a “points system.” All incoming email messages are analyzed to determine how likely they are to be spam. Each message is assigned a number of points. The greater the point total, the more likely the message is spam.

Points Required to Mark Messages as Spam
This setting specifies the number of points necessary to mark messages as spam. Marked messages will be moved to a special Spam folder, or they will show up in your Inbox marked as spam (depending on settings you will choose.)
Points Required to Automatically Delete Messages
This setting specifies the number of points necessary to automatically delete messages. If a message is automatically deleted by the Spam Filter, you will not see that message at all.

Marked Spam Handling

Marked Spam Handling

After the Spam Filter analyzes a message, it assigns the message a point value. If the point value falls between the thresholds you set, the message will be delivered to you. You have two choices for the method of delivery.

Move marked messages to my WebMail Spam folder.
If you choose this option, you will not see any marked messages when you access your email as you normally do. Each day you will receive a single email message with a list of all the marked spam messages you received that day. If you wish to view any of those messages, you can do so by using the WebMail interface.
Leave marked messages in my Inbox.
If you choose this option, “***** SPAM *****” will be added to the subject line of marked messages, helping you to identify message which are likely to be spam. You will receive these marked messages along with your regular email.

Virus Alerts

Virus Alerts

All email which does not get deleted by the Spam filter gets scanned for viruses. If a virus is found, the message is blocked and a virus alert is sent to your Inbox. You may choose how to handle virus alerts by selecting one of three options.

Send a daily virus alert summary (recommended.)
If you choose this option, a single summary message will be sent to you each day listing all the virus messages received during the preceding 24 hours.
Send a virus alert message for each virus found.
With this option selected, you will receive a virus alert for each infected email message sent to you.
Do not send any virus alert messages.
Choose this option if you do not wish to receive any virus alerts at all. Infected messages will simply be deleted, and you will not be notified about them.
Email Domains

Email Domains

Hubris Communications hosts several different core domains, allowing us to offer email addresses with more local applicability. As such, all our customers have the potential to receive email messages sent to any of these core domains. We give you the option of enabling or disabling this feature for each domain we host.

To Block Certain Core Domains
Uncheck each domain name you wish to block. Email sent to your username at that domain name will automatically be deleted.
To Block All Core Domains Except Your Own
Uncheck all the domains listed except your own. Email will only be delivered to you if it is sent to the address you created when you signed up for an account. (This option may help reduce the amount of spam you receive.)
White List

White List

Whenever you receive messages from people in your White List, they will be delivered to your Inbox without passing through the Spam Filter. That means they will never be in danger of being marked or deleted due to their content.

Black List

Whenever you receive messages from people in your Black List, they will be automatically deleted by the Spam Filter regardless of their contents. By adding an email address to the Black List, you effectively ignore all email from that address.
