Dial-Up Setup Instructions (Continued)

Option 2: Manually Configure Your Computer Mac OS X 10.1

  1. Launch the “Network Preferences Panel&rdquo by following these steps:
    1. Click the “Apple” menu (Apple Menu) in the upper left corner of the screen.
    2. Click “System Preferences.”
    3. Click the icon labeled network “Network.”.
  2. The “Network Preferences Panel” will launch. Make selections as shown in the following screenshots.
    1. Network Preferences Panel
      • Location: Set to “Automatic.”
      • Show: Set to “Internal Modem.”
      • In the “TCP/IP” tab, make sure the following settings are correct:
        • Conifgure: This option must be set to “Using PPP.”
        • DNS Servers: Leave this box blank.
        • Search Domains: Leave this box blank.
      • To continue, click the “PPP” tab.
    2. Network Preferences Panel
      • Service Provider: Type “Hubris Communications.”
      • Account Name: Type in your login-id in all lowercase letters. This is the first part of your email address. Do not type the @-symbol nor anything else that follows.
      • Password: Enter your password. Passwords must be entere with correct capitalization.
      • Telephone Number: Type the Hubris Communications dial-up phone number for your city.
        • Enter the number using standard dashes (but no parentheses.)
        • Enter the number exactly as you would dial it on your telephone, including a “1” and area code if necessary.
      • Alternate Number: Leave this box blank.
      • Save Password: This option should be checked.
      • To continue, click the “PPP Options” button
    3. Network Preferences Panel
      • Some of the settings here are option and they bay be left at thei rdefault settings (as shown here.)
      • To continue, click “OK,” then click the “Proxies” tab.
    4. Network Preferences Panel
      • All settings on this tab should be unchecked. All boxes shouldbe left blank.
      • To continue with these instructions, click the “Modem” tab.
    5. Network Preferences Panel
      • Modem: This box should automatically be set tot he correct modem type.
      • Enable error correction and compression in modem: This option should be checked.
      • Wait for dial tone before dialing: This option should be checked.
      • Dialing: For most people, this should be set to “Tone.”
      • Sound: Set this option to “On.”
      • Other options may be set at your discretion.
      • Click the button labeled “Apply Now” to save your changes, then close the “Network Preferences Panel.”
  3. Configure your email program.

    Instructions vary depending on the email program you plan to use. Go to the Mac OS X Software Configuration page to choose your email program.
