Outlook Express 5 Icon Outlook Express is the mail and newsgroup component of Microsoft Internet Explorer 5. You can configure it to access your Hubris Communications email account by following these instructions.

Setting Up an Account for the First Time

Before you can use Outlook Express to access your email account, you must configure the program with the correct account settings. If you have already done this, you can skip these setup instructions and view the other configuration options below.

  1. Launch the “Internet Accounts” window.
    1. Within Outlook Express, click the “Tools” menu.
    2. Choose “Accounts...” from that menu.

    The “Internet Accounts” window will open. The following screen shots and instructions tell you how to configure Outlook Express to use your Email Account. Be sure to click the “Next” button (where appropriate) after completing each step.

  2. Accounts
    • On this screen, click the “New” button.
  3. New Account
    • Make sure the “Account Type“ is set to “POP.”
    • Click the button labeled “Assist Me.”
  4. Account Setup Assistant
    • Type in your name as you would like it to appear when other people receive email from you. In most cases, you will want to type your first and last name.
    • Alternatively, you may wish to use some other name if the email account will be used by more than one person within a family or organization. Examples are:
      • Smith Family
      • ABC Company
      • Community Church
      • etc...
  5. Account Setup Assistant
    • Type in the full email address in all lower-case letters.
  6. Account Setup Assistant
    • The first option should be left at its default setting, “POP3.”
    • In the second box, type your incoming mail server name.
    • In the third box, type in your outgoing mail server name.
  7. Account Setup Assistant
    • In the first white box, type in your login-id. This is just the first part of your email address. Do not type the @-symbol, nor any other part of your email address.
    • Type your password into the second white box. This is the same password you use to log onto the service.
    • We suggestion you leave the option “Save password” checked.

    • Change the settings to match those shown here, then click “Finish.”

Checking Other Settings and Options within Outlook Express

There are other options and settings you may wish to configure for Outlook Express. Some of those options are explained below.

  1. Launch the “Internet Accounts” window.
    1. Within Outlook Express, click the “Tools” menu.
    2. Choose “Accounts...” from that menu.
    3. When the “Accounts” window appears, click the “Mail” tab.
    4. Select your email account from the list, then click the “Edit” button.
  2. Edit Account: Settings
    Account Name
    If you wish, you may change the name of your account to something more meaningful.
    Name
    You may type whatever you wish in this field. It will appear in emails that you send.
    Email Address
    This field must contain your valid email address.
    Account ID
    This is the first part of your email address only. Do not include the @-symbol or the domain name.
    POP Server
    Enter the name of your incoming mail server.
    Save Password
    This option should be checked. Enter your password in the box. This is the same password you use to login to the system.
    SMTP Server
    Enter the name of your outgoing mail server.
    To adjust additional outgoing mail server settings, click the button labeled “Click here for advanced sending options.” A pop-up panel will appear:

    SMTP Authorization

    • Click the option labeled “SMTP server requires authentication.”
    • Enter your username and password in the spaces provided.
    • Click the small square in the upper left-hand corner of the pop-up panel to return to the previous screen.
  3. Edit Account: Options
    • Leave these settings at their default values.
    • Click “OK” to save your changes.
